5 Things Friday:1st Edition

Happy Friday! :)

I'm not usually one to jump right on the bandwagon (as evidenced by the fact that I had a "dumb phone" until early 2012 and I literally just got HD-DVR today!)...but I'm going to jump in and participate in this 5 things Friday thing. So without further ado, here are 5 things I'm loving this Friday:

1) The new blog design! It totally captures my personality, and the things that are most important to me - family and fitness! Huge thank you to Pamela at The Posh Box for turning my vague ideas into a great design.

2) My new Skechers GoWalk2 Super Breathe shoes. I had one thing in mind when I ordered these: summer vacation in Savannah! We love to walk everywhere while we're on vacation (and love to take walks in general), but for obvious reasons, it's not comfortable to have socks and sneakers on all day when it's 100 degrees outside. I had seen my sister wearing these last year when we went to Disney World, and I really wanted them. Our upcoming 1-week vacation to Savannah was the perfect excuse for me to buy these. The foam on the inside of the shoe is similar to a yoga mat. They're super comfy, and great for standing at my VariDesk at work too!

3) Smoothies! Are you picking up on the theme here? Summertime in the south! I've been making a lot of smoothies in the morning, and packing them in a shaker bottle in my lunch bag. I worked from home today, so I was able to make one this afternoon for a yummy snack. This one was ugly, but very tasty

- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 2 tbs Nutribiotic vanilla brown rice protein powder
- 1 big handful of spinach
- 1 banana
- 1/2 cup of frozen berries

4) Vegan oatmeal raisin cookies - and spending quality time making them with my 5 year old. She was really into it tonight, and we really enjoyed each other's company. It was a reminder that I really need to slow down and make more of a conscious effort to do things just with her....

I adapted this from a recipe my sister sent me a while ago for vegan oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. (Not the sister with the Skechers GoWalk shoes; the other sister. Ha.) I mostly stuck to the recipe, but left out the chocolate chips because I didn't have any on hand, subbed in raisins, upped the oatmeal a bit, and added some flax for extra nutrition.

- 2 large mashed bananas
- 1 1/4 cups old fashioned oats
- 1/4 cup of shredded coconut (I used reduced fat because it's what I had on hand)
- 2 tsp vanilla
- ~1/4 cup of ground flax (I didn't measure - I just tossed some in!)
- ~1/3-1/2 cup of raisins (no measuring here either)

Just mix and bake for 10 minutes. So easy and so tasty! Not to mention they're healthy enough to eat for breakfast (only about 100 calories apiece!). I am totally eating 3 cookies for breakfast tomorrow. It will feel so naughty, but will still be good for me. WIN!

5) Sauvignon Blanc. I used to be a straight up Pinot Grigio girl, but I've been hooked on Sauvignon Blanc for several months now. And let me tell you my friends, mommy needed this glass of wine at the end of day 3 of daddy being away!

And that's a wrap! I'll be checking back in later this weekend to recap how I've been "making fit happen" during daddy's business trip. (Teaser: it's challenging!)

What are you loving this Friday?

  1. The new layout came out great! I love it. Those shoes look interesting too. Hey, what shoes do you wear for running?

    1. Thanks! I've been wearing Brooks Adrenaline for the past few years, but I'm looking to try different shoes soon.

  2. I love smoothies year around! Great blog design.
