Happy Mother's Day!

So hard to believe that today was my fifth Mother's Day as a mommy! How did I get to be 31 with a husband, 2 kids, and a mortgage? Didn't I just finish 8th grade? Moving on...

It was an early start in our house today. No sleeping in for me. But lucky for me, my 19-month-old baby girl loves to spend her first 5-10 waking minutes snuggling up to me. I'll take it - even at 5:45 am on a Sunday!

I'm not sure what possessed me to put them on today, when it was 68 and drizzly in the morning, but I put on some shorts to go out to breakfast. Anyone who knows me well knows that this is a BIG deal. With the exception of exercising, I never wear shorts. I officially "quit" shorts when I was about 15. Too self conscious. But 3 years of living in the south have worn me down. I gave in and bought 3 pair last weekend. And oddly enough, I feel much less self conscious wearing shorts and the like now at 31, after 2 babies, than I did at age 15. Dare I say I even LIKED wearing them?!

It was Mommy's choice for breakfast today, so we went to a local bagel shop and deli where I ordered my favorite - a huge bowl of oatmeal with raisins and brown sugar. (Such an exciting life, huh?!) I'm loosely following the 21 Day Fix eating plan, so I downed some Raw Protein mixed with almond milk before we left. It's a little grainy and a tad tough to mix, but most vegan protein powders are so it didn't bother me. The coffee flavor was pretty good.

The rest of the morning was spent playing in the park and shopping at Sam's Club. (Mommy's work is never done, even on Mother's Day!)

I was feeling pretty unmotivated to work out. I had a bit of a "hangover" from yesterday's 7-mile run. I was not well hydrated for that one, and I paid the price almost immediately afterward in the form of a major headache. After several glasses of water, I managed to rally for a run this afternoon. Unfortunately it was anything but pleasant. Sore legs, a slightly upset stomach, blazing sunshine, and humidity. Less than ideal conditions for sure. I was slow and I only ran 3.7 miles (my usual minimum is 4)...but better than no run at all!

Finally, after my run, I put my feet up and relaxed, as I should on Mother's Day! I think it lasted all of 2 minutes before one or both of the girls need me... Such is mommy's life! :)

Hope all the other mom's and moms-to-be out there enjoyed the day as well!
