Mommy Time + T25 Week 1 Thoughts



Hey there! I'm coming at ya from beautiful downtown Greenville, SC - on a mini-vacation with the fam.


I took the day off yesterday and brought the kiddos to school for a half day before we headed out of town, so I was able to have a few hours of mommy time! You'd think I would have started the day by sleeping in a bit, but no - I was up at 5 am getting my T25 on in the living room with daddy. (Week 1 recap and thoughts coming below...)

I dropped the kids off at school around 7:45 and did a few errands, and of course stopped for an iced americano at Starbucks. I had decided to move my long run up a day so I could get it out of the way before our trip, so I headed out the door around 9 with the intent to run 8 miles.

My legs were definitely feeling the 5 am lower body workout, but even still, I felt pretty good when I started off down the street. I had a pretty good clip going for the first 4-ish miles, averaging about 9:18/mile. Right about the 4.5 mile mark, I started to fall apart. My legs felt dead tired, and I kept talking myself into and out of just running 6 miles instead.

Right around 5.5 miles, I stopped for a minute to stretch my legs, which was an excellent decision! I'm not sure I would have even finished made it to 6 miles if I hadn't stopped.

I felt a bit refreshed after that, and ultimately ended up splitting the difference and running 7 miles - albeit much slower than I would have liked.

Lesson learned - do NOT do Lower Focus and a long run on the same day!
It was getting pretty hot out by the time I finished, so a nice cool shower felt pretty amazing afterward.

About an hour before I picked the munchkins up, I got a call from a dear friend that I haven't seen in 6 years. It had been a a few months since we had talked, but as usual, it was like no time had passed at all. It was refreshing to talk to her for a while (45 minutes!), and it was a great way to kick off the long weekend.

So I made it through week 1 of Focus T25! The only thing I haven't done yet is the stretching video which is on the schedule for tomorrow.

If you're not familiar with T25, here's a quick description from Beachbody:

The program is split into 2 5-week phases: Alpha and Beta. Here's the schedule for week 1 of Alpha phase, along with my thoughts about each workout:

Monday: Cardio - "Wow - I can't believe how sweaty I got in just 25 minutes!"
Tuesday: Speed 1.0 - "This workout is no joke!"
Wednesday: Total Body Circuit - " Holy sh*t - that was HARD!"
Thursday: Ab Intervals - "I have never sweat so much doing abs before!"
Friday: Lower Focus + Cardio - (I skipped the cardio since I ran.) "Oh my God - my legs are gonna give out!"
Saturday: Off - you're supposed to use this day to record your stats. (Since I'm training for another half marathon, I still did a short run today.)
Sunday: Stretch (haven't done this one yet, but soooo looking forward to a full 25 minutes of stretching!)

These workouts are intense, but the beauty is that they are over in a flash! Perfect for a busy mommy like me! And there are modifiers for most exercises, making it great for all fitness levels. So far, I would say I highly recommend it. Everyone can find 25 minutes in their day.
